Contraindications:

  • May not be indicated for severe spasticity
  • Not for use in the presence of skin breakdown

Precautions:

  • This splint is to be fitted initially by a healthcare professional who is familiar with the purpose for which it is prescribed
  • If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or discomfort occurs, use should be discontinued and a healthcare professional consulted
  • Be careful that the straps are not so tight that they interfere with circulation

Care and Cleaning:

  • The cover can be hand washed in warm water and air dried
  • Be sure the cover is completely dry before reapplying the splint

Instructions For Use:

  • Place the hand on the curved surface of splint
  • The flat portion should be away from the hand
  • Make sure that the splint follows the distal transverse arch of the hand and that the hand is higher at the radial (thumb) side and progressively lower at the ulnar (little finger) side
  • The small hook strap should be on the ulnar side of the hand and the longer loop strap on the radial side
  • Fastening the straps:
  • With the tan loop facing out, wrap the long strap over the back of the hand toward the ulnar side, under the wrist, and then over the back of the hand again
  • The strap should cross itself on the back of the wrist
  • Secure the short hook strap onto the long strap
  • Adjust tension as appropriate
  • If desired, excess length of the long strap can be trimmed, but don't trim the short strap
  • Modifying the splint:
  • If modification in the shape of the splint is needed, remove the cover and trim the foam splint with an electric knife
  • When replacing the cover, position the short strap near the flat edge with the hook portion facing up (away from the flat edge of the splint)
