The OCSI DynaPro Knee Brace is great for helping people with stiff knees. It works well for those with mild to moderate stiffness by using both still and moving therapy. This device is especially useful for patients with spasticity, a condition where muscles are overly tight. It helps treat abnormal reflexes in the knee and is effective for making sure the knee can fully straighten. Wearing the device for three to six hours helps reset the muscles to a better length, leading to more flexible knee joints over time.

What to buy with Dynapro Flex Knee Orthotics

How to use Dynapro Knee Brace?

  1. To relax tight leg muscles, start with gentle stretching exercises, either by moving the leg or using a stretching tool called NeuroStretch™.
  2. Use stretching exercises to gently stretch the joints, muscles, and tissues in the leg without causing discomfort or triggering a reflex that tightens the muscles.
  3. Set the knee brace to allow a bit more straightening of the knee than usual to help with the stretching.
  4. Put on the brace by securing the top part around the upper thigh and the bottom part around the shin.
  5. Center the kneecap and loosely fasten it in place.
  6. Gradually tighten the knee cap straps in a crisscross pattern over the knee until the leg feels gently stretched. This helps distribute pressure evenly.
  7. Check the back of the knee for tension by feeling the hamstring tendon. The goal is to feel a stretch, not pain.
  8. After wearing it for 15-30 minutes, check again to make sure the leg feels relaxed. There should be no discomfort.
  9. Follow the recommended wearing schedule provided by the doctor or therapist, gradually increasing the time as the patient gets used to it, up to six hours per shift.
  10. Check the skin every two to three hours for redness or discomfort. If there are issues, remove the brace and inform the healthcare team.
  11. If there are changes in the wearing schedule, reintroduce the brace gradually, following the care plan.
  12. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for care, inspecting the brace regularly to ensure it's in good condition.
  13. Periodically check and adjust the brace settings to maintain the desired level of knee stretch.

Warnings

  • Make sure a trained person fits the Dynapro Knee Brace to avoid putting too much pressure on the arm or leg.
  • All braces need time to break in. Start by wearing the DynaPro Flex Knee for 1 hour, and then add 30 minutes each day until you reach the recommended wearing time. Your doctor or therapist will help decide how long you should wear it.
  • Take off the DynaPro Flex Knee for at least two hours after wearing it for six hours. Check your skin for redness or pressure marks after removing it. Any redness should go away within an hour.
  • Don't use the DynaPro Flex Knee if you see red areas on your wrist, hand, or fingers, as it might mean too much pressure. Wait until the redness is gone before using it again. If the redness continues, have a healthcare professional check the device and make any needed changes to avoid pressure points.
