IontoPatch Electronic Transdermal Iontophoretic Drug Delivery System is used primarily by physical therapists, sports medicine professionals and occupational therapists for site-specific therapy to treat a variety of conditions. It is a non-invasive alternative to injection. Self-contained, innovative, built-in battery produces a low-level electric current to carry drug molecules non-invasively across the skin and to underlying tissue. IontoPatch shuts off drug delivery automatically when the prescribed dose has been administered.

More Information

1 . Prepare Site to ensure best adhesion.

  • Clip body hair - do not shave.
  • Clean area with soap and water - dry thoroughly.
  • Do not use alcohol or an alcohol wipe to clean the skin prior to patch application. If cleaning is necessary, use soap and water.

2. Fill Electrodes with approximately 1.0 ml of medication and/or saline.

  • Do not overfill. Saline vial enclosed contains more than 1.0 ml. Do not use entire contents of vial. Start at center of pad and fill toward outer edge leaving 3 mm unfilled around perimeter of pad to keep liquid from contacting adhesive.
  • Add positively charged medication (cationic) to positive electrode.
  • Add negatively charged medication (anionic) to negative electrode.
  • If single medication is used, fill alternate electrode with saline (0.9%NaCl).

3. Position Joint midway through full range of motion to ensure adhesion.
4. Place Patch in desired location with medication electrode over treatment site.
5. Secure Patch by running finger around perimeter and outer ridge only.

  • Do not press center of electrodes during initial application. Pressing the center dispenses liquid and compromises adhesion.
  • Wrap over patch when adherence is in question: difficult area to adhere to, oily or dry skin, being worn during significant activity or exercise.

6. Patch Wear Time:

  • Delivery time is dependent upon individual patient skin resistance.
  • For the average patient, dosage delivery will be complete in approximately 8 hours.
  • The rate of drug delivery will be substantially reduced after 12 hours. Remove the patch after 12 hours.

7. Remove Patch:

  • To minimize skin irritation, remove the patch gently while thoroughly soaking with soap and water. Do not pull patch off while dry.
  • Use moisturizing lotion following patch removal.
  • Allow a minimum of 24 hours between patch removal and the next patch application.
  • Where possible, vary the location of adhesive contact to skin for alternate patch applications.
