How does Freestyle Lite Glucose Test Strips work?

• When a drop of blood is put on the diabetes test strips, glucose in the blood reacts with glucose oxidase to produce gluconic acid.
• A current is transferred by the meter to the other end of the test strip.
• Electric terminals on the glucose strips allow the meter to calculate the current between the terminals.
• Current between the terminals is changed according to the level of gluconic acid produced.
• Then an algorithm is used by the blood glucose meter to calculate the blood glucose level on the basis of the difference in current.
