How to perform Self Intermittent Catheterization?

  1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for a minute.
  2. Remove the self-cath intermittent catheter from the pack
  3. Position comfortably over the toilet or on a seat (if draining into a drainage bag).
  4. Clean the opening of the urethra and the surrounding area
  5. Insert the rounded end of the catheter into the urethra with gentle pressure.
  6. When the catheter reaches the required position urine will start to flow. Stop pushing the catheter inside.
  7. When urine stops flowing, remove the catheter from the urethra 
  8. Dispose of the catheter in accordance with local rules and regulations
  9. Wash hands after use.
